Living with a jeweler, and being surrounded by stacks and cases of luscious, spectrum-sorted shiny beads of beautiful colors is proving to be a terrible temptation. They're so pretty! I want to play! Now I'm looking at beads online and pondering a trip to drool over shinies at Bead It.
This is dangerous.

Date: 2008-08-10 01:16 am (UTC)all-assortable for discount, INCREDIBLE selection, not seen ANYWHERE in the known (or unknown) universe, and the absolute BEST company EVAR.
i have been using them for nearly my entire career in jewelry -- that's 17 years.
i only go to bead stores if i absolutely MUST see the product... usually just stones that vary too much from strand to strand, or something new that is somehow too pricy at fire mtn to risk it (tho that shouldn't stop me -- their return policy is just as amazing as the rest of their customer service!)...
they ship ANY package, ANY size, by FedEx for $5.
Thanks!

It's really hard not to order the cat's eye - so gorgeous!

Date: 2008-08-11 05:19 am (UTC)2. you don't need a tax ID with them -- those prices are for the public!
3. did i mention the ALL-assortable discounts? if you buy 20 of something that comes in packages of 2, that's 10 items. at 15, you get the first price break; at 50, the next one. i just received a 50-item order (lots of Swarovski bicones, with some of the inexpensive Czech to compare, plus a few odds and ends of tools and a HUGE amount of rose quartz and freshwater pearls for rosaries)... over $300 of stuff for $215 (with $5 shipping).
4. cat's eye? tigerseye or fiber optic?
5. if you're looking for just a little bit of something (as in a few gemstone beads that only come in full strands) or really need to see/feel what you're getting first, then hit the local shops (like the one on S. Lamar or Nomadic Notions in N.Austin). you might also consider asking the beaders you know if they happen to have spare of whatever-it-is... *looks at double-laptop bag FULL of gemstone beads and 2 other carry-bags of other materials*
cuz... y'know... postage from dallas to austin is pretty darn cheap.
