If I were to break into my upstairs neighbors' apartment and install a track system along their ceiling, going everywhere they need to go on a given day, and them mount them to it by rollers upside down so they can only get around their apartment by walking softly on their hands - is that a crime, or an art project?  Both?

Oh my god, you people - take your boots off and stop stomping everywhere!  You rattle the stuff in our kitchen cabinets when you go tromping through yours.

Imaging giant human-bat hybrids rolling around on their own ceiling saying 'blah'...

Both. Still, it should be done. Getting as high as the countertops would be quite a challenge, and they'd have killer abs after a week.

I'd be making them stronger. I'm not sure that would benefit me in the end. :P

When I moved in here, I had a troupe of clog-dancing elephants above me. Nobody since has been quite as loud, although there's been varying degrees of noise.

The most annoying one was the guy who, every Saturday around 11AM or so, would do something in his living room that made the floor joists go SQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKY
SQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKY
SQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKYSQUEAKY
loud enough that it actually scared my cat. One day I got a broom and pounded on the ceiling, and the SQUEAKYSQUEAKY slowed down and stopped, and it never happened again. He moved out a few weeks later, I think.

I have decided to believe it was exercise equipment.

Our last upstairs neighbor was noisy, but these folks - I don't know what they do to walk that hard. I've gone up to ask them ever-so-nicely to please stop wearing the lead platforms and dancing the jitterbug kthxbai; they are small people. I'm far from small and have never had a noise complaint from an upstairs neighbor. I know skinny people don't move around with the same sort of constant self-consciousness fat people do, but for crying out loud. Yeah, they even scare the kitten on a fairly regular basis, and she's a teenager who's not afraid of anything except the carpet-sucking monster.

They're even noisier tonight than they were this afternoon.

I want a house.

The SQUEAKY? Oh, I hope it was an exercise machine. The moving out makes it all seem so furtive, though. The joys of apartment living, yo.

I've never had a noise complaint from a downstairs neighbor, either. Oi, my brain.

The same day I banged on the ceiling, I went outside of the apartment to take trash to the dumpster or something, and saw him coming out of the apartment with two women. If it wasn't an exercise machine, I begin to suspect why it may have been so loud.

* I just remembered that a few weeks ago, on another forum I read, someone posted to complain that their downstairs neighbors had asked them to stop her child from bouncing on this swing-thing that's fixed in a doorway of their apartment. She was all huffy that they'd deny her child this pleasure of his, but I had no sympathy whatsoever as it didn't occur to her to either (a) put some padding under the swing to muffle it or (b) ask them when they would be out of the apartment at work so she could work out a schedule for letting her kid use the bouncy swing thing. Both of which were suggested by other members of the forum.

Other people's noise in *my* space: reason #1 I refuse to live in an apartment again if at all possible.
